May 3, 2013 - Fishing Trip on the Columbia and Snake Rivers

Western kingbird with dinner

Balsonroot on the banks of the Snake River

Today most of the day was spent on the Snake River, with a brief beginning on the Columbia.  We launched at Wallula Gap, at the Yacht Club, and found ourselves in too much wind to be able to hold the boat steady for the kind of fishing we were doing.  However...we also found a lovely older lab, who enjoyed playing with Cruiser.  We found a kingbird, having breakfast.  We found hillsides covered with balsamroot.  When you're fishing, you don't always have to be catching!

That said, we had hoped to do a bit of catching, so moved to the Snake River.  There was little to no wind there.  The bird life was wonderful (pelicans, cormorants, egrets, various ducks, osprey, etc.)  And again, hills covered with balsamroot.  We fished one cove in particular, and had several nibbles - but caught nothing.  Nothing but sun, warmth, beauty, and the fun of being in the company of one another.  (Cruiser didn't like the boat motor, but he had no problem being in the boat at all.  When we were under way, he just sat on the Captain's feet...)
