June 9, 2013 - The Birds in the Evening, and Patton's Back

Blackbird

California quail

Patton (retrieving two balls)

Western kingbird

It was both an interesting and lovely day today.  First, church and our annual choir celebration, which meant we got to sing three pieces.  Great fun!  Then, work in the garden...until a neighbor was a little careless with his shooting.  I heard the report of the gun, then the round whizzed past my ear.  We met a new neighbor, doubtless he'll be a bit more cautious when going after another nuisance bird, and he'll get some fresh garden veggies out of the deal.  (No sense in making a big deal out of this.)

When done with the garden, and playing with Patton, we went outside on the front deck.  The pup was pooped, so he fell asleep.  We watched the birds and talked and drank wine - our summer evening routine.  I can't imagine a better way to spend the time than with each other, watching the river, the light, the wildlife.
